Philosophy of Care

As a care home for adults with Learning Difficulty with other associated Special needs, we believe the residents at Unicorn have the right to independence, individuality, dignity and the rights to make decisions and choices. We always assume Mental Capacity until proven otherwise in every aspect

Unicorn Project philosophy is that all residents whatever their abilities are given the opportunity to lead as near full and normal lives as possible and are able to do so in a peaceful, happy and secure environment. Because of mixed abilities particular emphasis is placed on promoting independence and helping each resident to fulfill their own potential. Each resident is encouraged to participate as much as possible in the decision making and running of the household.

Quality of life is at the heart of our philosophy, we place strong emphasis on nutrition, holidays, activities and outings, maintaining & promoting family relationship. We build upon individual strengths and needs assessments. Our standard is our strength.

Unicorn Project’s care, services and facilities are second to none. All rooms are beautifully decorated with traditional furnishing and décor to the various comfortable lounges and dinning area. Every thing has been specially designed to provide quality care and individual comfort and safety for all our residents whatever their dependencies or needs.

We at Unicorn Project recognize our residents as individuals, each with differing requirements. Residents in our homes shall have the right to:

  • Lead a full and independent life within the privacy and security of the home.
  • Be treated with dignity and respect and be addressed in a respectful manner.
  • Have the full support of caring and trained staff to assist residents in a professional manner.
  • Maintain the practice of religious beliefs and escort to religious services.
  • Continue with, adopt or participate in, such social and recreational activities in the home and local community.
  • Lead lives free from any form of discrimination regardless of one’s race, sex, religion, color or disability.
  • Have privacy when receiving counseling, treatment or personal care and access to a quiet area to communicate with family, friends, lawyers, clergyman, or any other person.
  • Confidentiality of all personal, financial and medical records.
  • Be provided with adequate and appropriate accommodation of an acceptable standard.
  • Be provided with nourishing meals and snacks in accordance with dietary needs.
  • Have access to manager at short notice, and be able to send and receive private correspondence.
  • Bring items of personal furniture and belongings as can be reasonably accommodated.
